Jansa Duo — Music for Violin and Violoncello
Jansa Duo was founded in 2006 by Christine Rox and Klaus-Dieter Brandt to survey the repertoire for violin and violoncello duo from the baroque era to the present.
Playfulness and a historical sensibility spanning three centuries are the key to their approach to a music genre that experienced its first blossoming in the salons of the early nineteenth century. Juxtaposing less well-known works with more familiar ones, they seek to reveal the historical development and distinctive allure of the string duo.
Jansa Duo plays instruments adjusted to baroque, classical, and romantic period practices. Combining historical performance principles with a modern technique, they evoke the spirit of each musical epoch to reveal the richness and diversity of the repertoire.
The name Leopold Jansa recalls an important 19th-Century composer and violinist. Born in Bohemia, Jansa was sought after as a teacher, violin virtuoso and chamber musician in Vienna and played an important role in educating the public through his chamber music soirees.
